avalanche Highlands Serious incident
Ben Nevis, Number Five Gully, North Face
Three climbers died in an avalanche on Ben Nevis's Number Five Gully on the North Face on 11 March 2019. The casualties were two French nationals aged 32 and 41, and a Swiss national aged 43. A fourth climber, a 30-year-old Swiss national, survived and was receiving treatment in hospital; 29 volunteer mountain rescuers from Lochaber and Glencoe teams attended the incident in extremely challenging conditions.
Outcome: three fatalities, one survivor hospitalised
