Calder Valley Search and Rescue Team responded to five recent callouts involving casualty evacuations from falls at multiple locations and searches for missing persons in collaboration with partner agencies across the region.

animal incident Yorkshire Dales
A member of the public reported hearing a sheep in distress on Newby Moss near Ingleborough. Team members located the animal stuck approximately 10 feet down a pothole and successfully recovered it, reuniting it with the flock.
Outcome: sheep recovered and released to rejoin flock
wildfire Peak District
A large wildfire at Dovestone Reservoir in the Peak District burned for several days, destroying miles of moorland. Oldham Mountain Rescue supported Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service by providing medical cover, transporting crews and equipment via 4x4 vehicles, and guiding fire crews to access points. A 20-year-old woman has been charged with aggravated arson in connection with the fire.
Outcome: fire contained and remains under investigation; suspect arrested and charged with aggravated arson
injured walker Dartmoor
A walker sustained a lower leg injury near Longaford Tor and was attended by South Western Ambulance Service Trust and the team on 14 July. The Devon Air Ambulance was able to land at the scene and evacuate the casualty to hospital.

injured hiker Highlands
A female hiker was injured near the summit of Ben Bhraggie and airlifted to hospital by coastguard rescue helicopter. Assynt Mountain Rescue Team members provided first aid and assisted in the evacuation, which occurred around midday on Monday with twelve team volunteers deployed.
Outcome: airlifted to hospital
heat-related illness Lake District
A teenage female was reported fitting and unresponsive on Loughrigg. The team found her suffering from heat-related illness, treated her, and escorted her from the hill.

A young woman reported as suffering from heat-related problems at Hell Ghyll was treated and evacuated by the team. The rescue took 2.5 hours with 17 team members involved.

injured walker Highlands
A hillwalker suffered a soft tissue injury to their lower leg on Sgùrr Breac in Wester Ross on Monday evening, making walking unbearable. The casualty managed to descend approximately 5 km from the summit before stopping to call for assistance. Dundonnell Mountain Rescue Team responded with nineteen volunteers, treated the casualty, and evacuated them by stretcher to the team vehicles.

injured motorcyclist Lake District
A motorcyclist fell from his bike on a public byway near Hodge Close and sustained a leg injury. The team assisted North West Ambulance Service by carrying the casualty on a stretcher from the track to an ambulance on the road.

heat-related illness Lake District
An elderly male walker on The Band suffered from likely heat-related illness and was assisted down by a Scottish Mountain Rescue team member. The Lakeland team located and further escorted him to the valley, where he was handed to family members.

A hillwalker suffered serious injuries after falling on the descent path from Goatfell and was airlifted by Coastguard helicopter. A second casualty with a lower leg injury was rescued from Coire Fhionn Lochan by Argo Cat. The team also provided first aid to an injured cyclist at the base.

injured biker and injured walker Southern Uplands
Tweed Valley Mountain Rescue Team responded to two separate callouts on 12 July 2026. A young mountain biker was injured at Glentress and treated before being stretchered to the Scottish Ambulance Service, while a walker suffered a hip injury near Traquair. Both casualties were assisted by the team, which used local knowledge to minimise stretcher carry distances.
Outcome: both casualties assisted and transferred to ambulance service
dog rescue Highlands
A dog was rescued from Ben Nevis after being suspected of consuming cannabis. The animal required assistance from mountain rescue due to the effects of the suspected poisoning.

A walker fell on the Corridor Route in the Lake District on 12 July, sustaining a suspected fractured kneecap and reporting tingling in her foot. She was treated on site and airlifted by air ambulance to a waiting land ambulance in a six-hour rescue operation involving Wasdale, Cockermouth, and Duddon and Furness mountain rescue teams.

A female walker fell and twisted her ankle on Great Gable on 12 July. Multiple rescue teams including Wasdale MRT and Cockermouth MRT responded, with a Coastguard helicopter providing transport assistance. The casualty was evacuated to Wasdale Base.

missing person South West
A 55-year-old woman missing from Droitwich was located in Tintern, Monmouthshire, Wales, approximately 60 miles from her home. Members of the Severn Area Rescue Association found her vehicle in a car park and located the woman, who was then attended by a remote rescue medical technician until an ambulance arrived.
Outcome: woman located and handed over to ambulance crew

A dog was rescued from the peak of Ben Nevis after consuming cannabis from a stash left on the trail. The dog was recovered and treated following the incident.

A 25-year-old male walker fell while scrambling near Langscar Gate, Malham. The team diverted members already en route to another incident to attend this casualty, who was assessed by rescue medical technicians on scene.

A 64-year-old female walker on the Three Peaks Challenge sustained an ankle injury on Whernside and was unable to bear weight. The team assessed and splinted her ankle, then stretchered her down to Kingsdale where she was met by friends for transport to hospital.

A fell walker broke their ankle on the fell paths around Aira Force on 11 July. Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team located the casualty and evacuated them by stretcher to a nearby Land Rover. The rescue took two and a half hours and involved 11 volunteers.

Four walkers became lost near Lingmell Crag whilst attempting to climb Scafell Pike. One member was tired and another was experiencing sickness and dehydration. Mountain rescue met the group during their descent, provided assistance, and escorted them safely back to their vehicle.

dehydrated walker Yorkshire Dales
A 54-year-old male walker on the Three Peaks Challenge became dehydrated and faint on the descent from Ingleborough near Horton-in-Ribblesdale. After speaking with the Duty Controller, he recovered sufficiently to walk back to the village under his own power, with the team on standby monitoring his progress.
Outcome: casualty recovered and walked off uninjured

A 96-year-old female walker slipped near Raven Scar above Malham Cove. The team assisted Yorkshire Ambulance Service in loading her into a stretcher for evacuation across the fell.

A walker suffered heat exhaustion at Levers Water on a warm afternoon and was unable to continue. The rescue team assessed him, provided fluids and shade, and stretchered him to vehicles for transport to the base where he recovered sufficiently to rest at a local hotel.
