Pillar, Lake District

An ex-SAS soldier died after slipping from a ridge on Pillar mountain in the Lake District during the Bob Graham Round fell running challenge in August 2024. He was 20 hours into the 66-mile, 24-hour event when he fell in bad weather. Mountain rescue teams from Wasdale and Cockermouth located his body at Pillar Cove and the coroner recorded a verdict of accidental death.
