Burscough

mountain bike injury Pennines

A 16-year-old male fell from his mountain bike and sustained injuries to his shoulder and back, including a potentially broken collar bone and spine injury. Mountain rescue volunteers immobilised him on a vacuum mattress and carried him by stretcher to a waiting ambulance, which transported him to Southport hospital.

Outcome: casualty transported by ambulance to Southport hospital

West Highland Way, Loch Lomond

Two injured walkers were assisted on the West Highland Way near Loch Lomond on 8 September 2026. The first casualty sustained a trauma-related injury and was airlifted to hospital with assistance from multiple agencies including the air ambulance, mountain rescue, and lifeboat crews. A second walker with a knee injury was also treated and transported for hospital care.

Outcome: both casualties airlifted/transported to hospital by air ambulance and boat crews

Bwlch Duwynt

Three members of Brecon Mountain Rescue Team responded to a walker who sustained an ankle injury on Bwlch Duwynt on 7 September. The casualty's ankle was immobilised and pain relief administered before being transported off the hill. She was able to make her own way to hospital for further assessment.

Outcome: casualty transported off hill and made own way to hospital

Goatfell

Two hillwalkers required rescue on Goatfell after an adventure turned into an emergency situation. The rescue was successful and both walkers were brought to safety.

Malham Cove, Malham, North Yorkshire

An 78-year-old male walker fainted at the top of Malham Cove, possibly due to low blood pressure. The team assessed him, placed him on a stretcher, and evacuated him to the base where he was handed over to relatives for transport to hospital for medical evaluation.

Outcome: casualty evacuated by stretcher and handed to relatives for hospital transport

Gregson Lane

A walker fell in the Gregson Lane area on Sunday 6th September and was unable to walk. North West Ambulance Service paramedics attended and initially requested mountain rescue assistance for extrication over rough ground, but the team was stood down after assessment determined they were not needed.

Outcome: stood down; paramedics attended

Coniston Old Man

A report was received of two missing walkers on Coniston Old Man. They were located safe and well at their accommodation before the team deployed to search.

Outcome: walkers located safe and well

Grizedale Forest

A cyclist came off their gravel bike in Grizedale Forest and sustained significant injuries. The team attended and worked with NWAS paramedics to provide initial care before the casualty was transferred by land ambulance to hospital.

Aira Force

A casualty with a broken ankle was rescued from Aira Force on 6 September after Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team was tasked by North West Ambulance Service. Twelve team members provided medical assessment and pain relief before stretching the casualty to a waiting road ambulance in misty, drizzly conditions. The operation lasted approximately two hours.

Outcome: casualty evacuated by stretcher to road ambulance and transported to hospital

Threshthwaite Mouth

A woman sustained a suspected ankle fracture while fellwalking at Threshthwaite Mouth. She was treated by team members and evacuated by stretcher with assistance from RAF Leeming Mountain Rescue Team.

Scandale Head

A walker reported three dogs in distress at Scandale Head. The team attended and determined the dogs were working dogs with no cause for concern.

Outcome: no action required, dogs assessed as safe

Aira Force

A casualty with a broken ankle was rescued from Aira Force on 6 September after being attended by twelve members of Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team. Team medical technicians provided pain relief and stretcher evacuation to meet a waiting road ambulance, which transported the casualty to hospital. The operation took approximately two hours in misty and drizzly conditions.

Two climbers fell at the base of the Great Wall at Wintours Leap near Chepstow on 5 September 2026. One climber sustained an injury and was unable to walk. A combined rescue team from Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service, Severn Area Rescue Association, and Ambulance HART attended; the injured climber was carried out and evacuated to an ambulance at Lancaut.

Upper Eskdale

A walker with a knee injury in upper Eskdale was located and assessed by a team member. The casualty's knee was strapped and they were able to walk out with support, returning to their vehicle without requiring a stretcher evacuation.

Threshthwaite Mouth

A male walker sustained a significant eye injury at Threshthwaite Mouth. Team members provided treatment and the casualty was stretchered down with assistance from RAF Leeming MRT who were conducting training in the area.

Goatfell, Isle of Arran

Two hillwalkers became disoriented while descending Goatfell on the Isle of Arran and were rescued by Arran Mountain Rescue Team with assistance from Coastguard Helicopter Rescue 199. The walkers were located on steep ground above Glen Rosa and evacuated safely by Argo Cat.

Longtown Mountain Rescue responded to three separate emergencies across south Wales on 5 September. Two walkers were stranded on steep ground in Llanthony and were safely assisted down; a person injured in a fall at Llangattock was evacuated by stretcher using rope rescue techniques; and a fallen climber in the Chepstow area was assisted by support from the Severn Area Rescue Association.

Outcome: walkers walked and driven down safely; injured person evacuated by stretcher to ambulance; fallen climber assisted with SARA support

Goatfell

Two hillwalkers became cragfast on steep ground above Glen Rosa while descending from Goatfell summit after becoming disoriented. Arran Mountain Rescue Team attended with support from Coastguard Helicopter Rescue 199, located the casualties on cold steep ground, warmed and assisted them down into the glen, and evacuated them by Argo Cats.

Outcome: both casualties safely evacuated by Argo Cats

Broad Stand, Scafell

Four 18-year-old males became stuck on Broad Stand, Scafell. Coastguard Rescue 897 assisted by airlifting team members and equipment to the location, then winched all four casualties off the crag and flew them to the car park.

Outcome: all four casualties winched off by helicopter and flown to car park

Rosthwaite, Keswick

North West Ambulance Service received a call regarding an injured casualty in the Rosthwaite area near Keswick. Keswick Mountain Rescue Team attended and the incident was resolved within five minutes.

Tryfan

critically injured walker - fall Snowdonia Serious incident

A walker suffered critical injuries after falling 10 metres while scrambling up a gully on Tryfan's west side in the early hours of the morning. Two passing mountaineering instructors provided immediate assistance, and a multi-agency rescue operation involving OVMRO, RAF Mountain Rescue Service, and Coastguard helicopter Rescue 336 was launched. The casualty was successfully airlifted and flown to a major trauma centre.

Claife Heights

A walker slipped on Claife Heights and sustained an ankle injury. The casualty was assessed, his leg splinted and he was stretchered to a Land Rover, then driven to his accommodation before being transported to hospital by family.
