Snowdon

multiple incidents: exhausted walker, crag-fast climber, heat stroke, rockfall injury, missing person Snowdonia

Llanberis Mountain Rescue Team responded to multiple incidents on Snowdon on 18 July 2021, including the rescue of a 65-year-old man after 15 hours on the mountain, a 23-year-old crag-fast climber on the East Ridge, a 17-year-old with heat stroke on Watkin Path, a 49-year-old struck by falling rocks on Clogwyn Du'r Arddu, and a search for an overdue man on Snowdon Rangers path. The team was assisted by Coastguard rescue helicopters and RAF Valley mountain rescue.

Outcome: all casualties rescued and assisted

A woman in her 50s was found dead in the Gloucester-Sharpness canal near Frampton-on-Severn on 17 July following a search after she was reported missing. Police, fire and rescue, and the Severn Area Rescue Association were involved in the recovery operation. The death is not being treated as suspicious.

Central Beacons Mountain Rescue Team attended two separate incidents in the Neuadd Valley within consecutive days. On 14 July, a fell runner became detached from his partner and overdue, but was located safely in Pontsticill village. On 15 July, a couple lost on the Neuadd ridge and suffering from cold were located using mapping technology and escorted safely off the mountain.

Snowdon, Pyg track

fall Snowdonia Serious incident

A walker fell approximately 100 feet on Snowdon near the Pyg track on Saturday morning and was airlifted to hospital. The casualty was initially treated by Llanberis Mountain Rescue Team volunteers and a Coastguard helicopter winchman before being flown to hospital. The rescue team was already operating in the area following an earlier call to assist another walker with a medical condition.

Outcome: airlifted to hospital

missing walkers Highlands

Three walkers became separated and lost while descending Beinn a' Chlaidheimh in Fisherfield Forest during the 'Big Six' Munro challenge on Saturday evening. A joint rescue operation involving Dundonnell Mountain Rescue Team and HM Coastguard helicopters was launched, and all three walkers were located safe and well by Sunday morning.

Climbing/Rescue Scotland

Arran Mountain Rescue Team was called out on Saturday evening after two climbers became stuck on a crag. A rope was lowered to both individuals, allowing them to be safely assisted down the hill and back into Glen Rosa.

Injury/Water Rescue Skye

The team responded to two callouts near the Fairy Pools over recent days. One incident involved a female with an ankle injury on the Bruach na Frithe traverse path, requiring stretcher removal to the roadside. The second callout assisted helicopter crews dealing with a casualty who had fallen into the water at the pools.

Outcome: Casualty treated and removed from the area.

Central Beacons Mountain Rescue Team responded to two calls on 29 June 2021: a male walker with a leg injury on Mynydd-y-glog mountain in the Brecon Beacons, and a search for a missing 60-year-old man from the Caerphilly area. The injured walker was treated and evacuated by stretcher to hospital; the missing person search was ongoing.

Llanberis quarries, Snowdonia

A climber fell from the upper tiers of quarries at Llanberis in Snowdonia, sustaining multiple injuries and losing consciousness. He was stabilised by mountain rescue teams in a multi-agency operation and flown to hospital by air ambulance.

Ben Nevis

Sarah Buick, a 24-year-old experienced hillwalker from Dundee, went missing on Ben Nevis after posting a summit selfie at approximately 05:00 on Tuesday morning. Police Scotland and Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team launched a search, which began on Wednesday, with growing concern expressed as she had not made contact with friends or family.

A man missing from a caravan park in Newquay since early Sunday morning was found deceased in woodland near Newquay on Monday. West Cornwall Search and Rescue Team, assisted by East Cornwall Search and Rescue Team and Devon and Cornwall Police, located the body during a search of thick vegetation and woodland. The death is not being treated as suspicious.

Over the last few days, the team responded to several callouts. One incident involved a trials rider being airlifted from the Trotternish Ridge after sustaining a fractured lower leg. Another rescue occurred when a runner fell near Sgurr nan Gillean; they were assisted down to Allt Dearg Beag before walking out to Sligachan.

Outcome: All individuals were safely evacuated or received necessary medical attention.

A mountain biker suffered a suspected broken leg on the mountainside above Pontsticill in the Brecon Beacons and was rescued by the Central Beacons Mountain Rescue Team with assistance from local residents. A Coastguard rescue helicopter attempted to assist but was unable to land due to dense fog, so the casualty was evacuated by Scottish Ambulance Special Operations team using a Wolverine vehicle.

Auchope Cairn, Pennine Way

A woman sustained a lower leg injury while descending from Auchope Cairn on the Pennine Way and was unable to bear weight. Northumberland National Park Mountain Rescue Team, Border Search and Rescue Unit, and North of Tyne Mountain Rescue Team worked together to assess, treat and stabilise her before evacuating her by stretcher to a vehicle on the Scottish side of the border.

Gelligaer Common

paraglider crash Brecon Beacons Serious incident

A paraglider crashed on Gelligaer Common near Deri and was attended by Central Beacons Mountain Rescue Team, Welsh Ambulance Services HART, and South Wales Fire and Rescue Service. The casualty was fully immobilised and evacuated by stretcher to the roadside for transfer by ambulance to the major trauma centre in Cardiff.

Rough Tor, Bodmin Moor

injured teenager - fall from height South West

A teenage girl fell from height on Rough Tor during a Duke of Edinburgh Award exercise and sustained a lower leg injury. The Cornwall Air Ambulance and West Cornwall Search and Rescue Team responded; after initial assessment ruled out serious injury, she was evacuated by the team's off-road ambulance to a waiting land ambulance.

Ochils Mountain Rescue Team attended three separate incidents on the same day. The most serious involved a woman who fell approximately 15 feet into a gorge in the Touch Hills, suffering arm and pelvic injuries; she was airlifted to hospital by helicopter. Two other callouts involved a woman with an ankle injury on Dumyat who was carried to an ambulance, and a male climber at Cambusbarron Quarry who walked away uninjured.
