A man fell approximately 50 metres in the Mourne Mountains near Slieve Binnian on Monday afternoon, sustaining multiple injuries including head, neck and chest trauma. Other walkers raised the alarm and the Mourne Mountain Rescue Service assisted before he was airlifted to hospital in critical condition.

Outcome: airlifted to hospital in critical condition

Two lost hillwalkers were rescued from Meall an t-Suidhe in Lochaber after Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team traced their mobile phones on Wednesday night. The team also responded to a missing 71-year-old on Ben Nevis on Tuesday and attended a group of French walkers who were caught in an avalanche but uninjured earlier that day.

A man was found in a hypothermic state near the summit of Ben Nevis after spending the night on the mountain. Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team, RAF Lossiemouth, and the Inverness Coastguard helicopter conducted the search and rescue operation in very difficult conditions with fresh snow and high avalanche risk. The casualty was airlifted by helicopter to Belford Hospital in Fort William.

Snowdon

A 17-year-old was found unwell at Snowdon's summit and stretchered to safety by Llanberis Mountain Rescue Team. The teenager was suffering from mild hypothermia in wet, windy conditions and was evacuated via the Snowdon Mountain Railway track to hospital.

Outcome: casualty stretchered down and transferred to hospital

A woman fell down a ravine near Oban and was airlifted to hospital by rescue team. She was rescued and transferred to hospital for treatment.

Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue responded to three separate incidents in Snowdoria over one weekend. A mountain biker was found and stretchered after suffering a severe knee injury near Swallow Falls; a man was stretchered after slipping and injuring his knee while descending Tal Y Fan; and a man and his 11-year-old daughter were winched to safety by Coastguard helicopter after becoming stuck on the North Ridge of Tryfan in poor conditions.

Two Danish students were rescued from the Cheviot Hills after becoming exhausted and cold during their first day of a planned six-month UK walking trek. The pair, who had arrived in Britain the previous day, lost equipment and missed a refuge hut in wintry conditions before requesting assistance. Border Search and Rescue located them using mobile phone technology and escorted them to safety unharmed.

Outcome: both casualties warmed and walked to safety unharmed

A group of 10 walkers and two dogs were rescued from Windy Gyle in the Cheviot Hills after becoming stranded in severe winter conditions. Four mountain rescue teams involving 64 people conducted a 10-hour operation in heavy snow, locating the group after three and a half hours of searching. Three members of the group required urgent medical treatment, including two for hypothermia, and were transported off the hill by a local farmer's 4x4 vehicle.

Outcome: all safely rescued; three members received urgent medical treatment and were taken to hospital

Ben Nevis

Three climbers were caught in an avalanche on Ben Nevis and sustained non-life-threatening injuries. They were evacuated by Coastguard rescue helicopter and Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team, and taken to Belford Hospital in Fort William for treatment.

Four walkers became stuck in severe weather on Ben Lomond. Two were airlifted by Coastguard helicopter and two were escorted to safety by Lomond Mountain Rescue Team members in challenging conditions including snow and high winds.

River Wye, Chepstow

A man's body was discovered floating in the River Wye in Chepstow on Sunday morning by rescue volunteers conducting a routine training exercise. The body was retrieved from the water near BroadRock B&B and police were immediately notified. The incidents of the body discovery and a separate canoe found adrift later that evening are not thought to be related.

Outcome: body retrieved from water and handed to police

Aonach Beag, near Fort William

A climber died after falling while descending from the summit of Aonach Beag near Fort William on Thursday afternoon. He was rescued by Lochaber Mountain Rescue and a rescue helicopter, but had sustained fatal injuries. His companion, who was uninjured, had managed to contact the rescue team.

Central Beacons Mountain Rescue Team responded to four separate incidents on Monday, including two injured walkers on Pen y Fan and one on the hillside above Pentre village in the Rhondda Valley, with assistance from Brecon MRT, Longtown MRT, Western Beacons MRT, and coastguard and police helicopters. A family also became stranded during a riverside walk near Pontneddfechan and was brought to safety.

Llanberis Mountain Rescue Team issued a winter safety warning following a busy start to 2017, noting four call-outs since early January involving ill-prepared groups. Incidents included a group relying on a single mobile phone light and a person suffering a serious arm injury after slipping on ice near Snowdon summit, which the team said could have been prevented with proper equipment and planning.

A couple became lost on Snowdon's Pyg Track descent on New Year's Day 2017 after attempting to reach the summit in sleet and snow. The man developed medical problems and was evacuated by coastguard helicopter, while the woman was assisted by Llanberis Mountain Rescue Team. In a separate incident the same night, two climbers stranded on Idwal Slabs were brought to safety by Ogwen mountain rescue team after a seven-hour operation.

Two walkers on Crib Goch, Snowdon, became stuck after one suffered a broken ankle while traversing the ridge pinnacles. Llanberis Mountain Rescue Team deployed 16 members to assist; the injured walker was treated and airlifted by HM Coastguard helicopter to hospital.

Slieve Comedagh, Mourne Mountains

A man fell approximately 25–30 metres from cliffs on Slieve Comedagh in the Mourne Mountains and was airlifted to hospital by rescue helicopter. Mourne Mountain Rescue and ambulance paramedics assisted the casualty and his partner, who was stranded on a ledge above. The man was treated for injuries to his legs, pelvis and ankles, which were not thought to be life-threatening.

Ben Nevis, North Face

A climber in his 50s fell on the North Face of Ben Nevis on Friday and was airlifted by helicopter along with his uninjured companion. He died from his injuries despite the rescue efforts of Lochaber and RAF mountain rescue teams in difficult dark and cloudy conditions.

A 21-year-old climber died after falling on Ben Nevis near the East Gully of Aonach Mor whilst climbing with a companion on Sunday afternoon. Emergency services including Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team and HM Coastguard responded, and the casualty was airlifted to hospital but died from injuries sustained.

Snowdon, Crib Goch

Llanberis Mountain Rescue Team responded to five separate incidents on Snowdon over a weekend in September, including rescuing six walkers from Crib Goch ridge who became frightened and required rope assistance. Additional incidents included a woman collapsing on the Pyg track, a man experiencing a medical episode on the Snowdon Ranger path, and a woman with a dislocated shoulder on the Miners Track, all of whom were airlifted to hospital.

medical emergency - loss of consciousness Brecon Beacons

A teenager on an organised expedition in the Brecon Beacons lost consciousness and became unwell near Aber-craf in the upper Swansea Valley. Western Beacons Mountain Rescue Team, along with colleagues from Brecon and Central Beacons teams, attended and provided care before stretchering her off the hill. She was conveyed by ambulance to hospital for further assessment.

A woman was rescued after becoming lost in the Ystradfellte gorge in the Brecon Beacons and wandering for nearly six hours. Central Beacons Mountain Rescue Team located her with the aid of their 4x4 vehicle's lights and her whistle signal. She was brought to safety, provided with refreshments, and returned to her car uninjured.

Outcome: located and returned safely to her car
