stranded scramblers Snowdonia
Cwm Idwal, Glyderau mountains, Eryri National Park
Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue Organisation was called to rescue two scramblers who became stranded in a gully on the Idwal Staircase in Cwm Idwal on 7 January 2024. The pair were inadequately equipped, wearing only one crampon each between them. They were safely recovered by evening after team members were helicopter-inserted and established a belay system to lower them to safety.
Outcome: both casualties safely lowered to safe ground and returned to base by 11pm
