Silverdale

Slip/Fall Pennines

Mountain rescue volunteers attended an incident involving a 62-year-old woman who had slipped down a grassy embankment in Silverdale. The team assisted with the evacuation of the casualty across fields to an awaiting ambulance for hospital transport.

Outcome: Transported to hospital

Goyt in Brinscall

Fall/Injury Pennines

Mountain Rescue was called out on Saturday afternoon to assist with an individual who had fallen from their mountain bike near the Goyt in Brinscall. The person sustained an injury to their left ankle, which was assessed as a potential break. Volunteers successfully transported the casualty across difficult ground to where an ambulance was waiting.

Outcome: Transported safely from the scene

Cuerden Valley Park

Fall/Injury Pennines

Mountain rescue teams were called out on Wednesday afternoon to a young female who had fallen into a ditch and sustained a suspected broken ankle. Upon arrival, the individual was already receiving care from local park rangers and the fire service.

Outcome: Medical attention provided by other services

Williamson Park

Body Recovery Pennines Serious incident

The team attended Williamson Park on Wednesday, May 20th, to recover the body of an individual who had been found deceased earlier that day. Fifteen volunteers were involved in this task, which took approximately three hours to complete.

Outcome: Recovery completed

Williamson Park, Lancaster

Missing Person (Deceased) Pennines Serious incident

The team was called out on Wednesday, 20th May, to investigate and potentially search areas of Lancaster, specifically Williamson Park, for a missing young male. Sadly, it was later confirmed that the individual had been located deceased in the park.

Outcome: Fatal Outcome

Fall/Injury Pennines

A rescue team was called out on Sunday evening to assist paramedics with a 15-year-old who had fallen from a rope swing in High Bullough wood. The young person, who sustained a suspected broken ankle, was safely stretchered through the woods back to the quarry car park.

Outcome: Safe transport to medical facility

Fell End Fell, Clougha Pike

Lost persons/Search and Rescue Pennines

Mountain Rescue was called out on the evening of May 6th to search for five missing males near Clougha Pike. Using specialized technology, rescuers located two disoriented young men in a marshy area and subsequently escorted them safely off the fell.

Outcome: All safe and accounted for

Preston

Motor vehicle collision (motor cross) Pennines

Mountain Rescue was called out on Monday, 4th May, to assist with an incident in Preston involving two males who had collided head-on while riding motor cross bikes. A multi-agency response attended the scene, and both individuals were subsequently evacuated by air and land.

Outcome: Injuries sustained; evacuation completed.

Dunsop Bridge

Fall/Injury Pennines

The rescue team was called by Lancashire Police to assist a female who had fallen while walking near Dunsop Bridge. Following an assessment at the riverbank, she was treated for a sprained and deformed ankle, along with early signs of hypothermia before being safely transferred to paramedics.

Outcome: Transported to hospital after rescue

Bleasdale

Medical Emergency (Angina) Pennines

Mountain Rescue Team members attended a call regarding an elderly male experiencing an angina attack at the bottom of the hill. Following assistance from nearby personnel, the casualty was safely moved off the hillside to a farm where he was handed over to paramedics for further care.

Outcome: Handed over to Paramedics

Nicky Nook

Medical Emergency/Death Pennines Serious incident

The rescue team was called to Nicky Nook on Wednesday, 1st April, following a collapse involving a 79-year-old male. Despite resuscitation efforts by both the team and paramedics, the casualty was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Outcome: Deceased

Silverdale

Fall/Injury Pennines

Mountain rescue teams responded to an incident involving a 75-year-old male who sustained a head injury after falling while walking in the Silverdale area. Working with partner services, the team successfully assisted the casualty to safety across marshland.

Outcome: Patient safely moved from scene

Nicky Nook

Fall/Injury Pennines

The rescue team attended an 81-year-old male who had fallen while walking in the Nicky Nook area on Saturday, 21st March. The individual sustained injuries to his head and nose; however, he was safely in the care of the ambulance service upon arrival.

Outcome: Transported to medical care

Heysham Head

Fall from mountain bike Pennines

A rescue team was requested to assist a 17-year-old male who had fallen from his mountain bike while on Heysham Head. Multiple agencies responded to the callout; however, by the time the rescue team arrived, the individual was already being escorted to safety.

Outcome: No further action required (person safe)

Cairngorms

Fall/Injury Pennines

During winter training in the Cairngorms, team members responded to another walker who had fallen on the path and sustained injuries to both arms. The injured person was assessed for a left wrist and right shoulder injury before being evacuated off the mountain with assistance from local Ski Patrol.

Outcome: Evacuated for further treatment

Silverdale

Injury (Slip/Fall) Pennines

Mountain rescue teams attended an incident involving a woman who had slipped on mud and sustained an injury to her left ankle. She was treated at the scene with splinting before being transported by ambulance.

Outcome: Transported to hospital for treatment

Grizeback, Lake District

Missing Person Search Pennines

The team was called out on 28 January for a high-risk search operation involving a missing young person in the Dunnon & Furness area. The search concluded successfully when it was confirmed that the teenager had been found safe and well.

Outcome: Person Found Safe

Warton

Fall/Injury Pennines

The team attended an incident where a female was found on a muddy track after sustaining a fall and suspected leg injury. Following assessment at the scene, she was splinted for a deformed ankle and then safely stretchered to the road head for handover to paramedics.

Outcome: Transported to medical professionals

Howgills

Missing Person Search Pennines

The team assisted the Lake District Search & Mountain Rescue Association with an ongoing search for a high-risk missing person over the 9th and 10th of January 2026. Although mountain rescuers and search dogs were provided by Bowland Pennine MRT, the individual remained outstanding after the nominated search area was completed.

Outcome: Unsuccessful (Person still missing)

Silverdale

Fall/Injury Pennines

The team responded to an incident involving a 68-year-old woman who had fallen while walking in the Silverdale area. Volunteers attended to her at the scene and subsequently stretchered her approximately one kilometre along the marsh to the roadhead for onward transport.

Outcome: Transported from scene; treated at hospital

River Ribble, Marles Wood

Missing Person/Water Rescue Pennines Serious incident

Mountain rescue teams were called out on 22 December 2025 to assist in a search for an individual reported missing after swimming in the River Ribble at Marles Wood. The search concluded later that day when police discovered and recovered a body from the water.

Outcome: Deceased

River Lune at Halton

Fall/Entrapment Pennines

Mountain Rescue volunteers attended an incident on the banks of the River Lune in Halton following a call from the North West Ambulance Service. An 89-year-old male was found unable to move after falling into mud and brambles. He was safely stretchered out by the team and handed over to paramedics.

Outcome: Safe recovery

Appley Bridge

Missing Person Search Pennines Serious incident

A multi-agency search operation took place in the Appley Bridge area for a missing young male over several days. The search concluded with the discovery of the individual deceased on Christmas Day.

Outcome: Deceased

Mountain Rescue volunteers attended to a 77-year-old female who was experiencing chest pain while walking on Nicky Nook. The team worked alongside paramedics to provide treatment and safely escort the individual back to the ambulance.

Outcome: Patient treated and transported by ambulance

Warton Quarry

Hypothermia/Rescue Pennines

Mountain Rescue Team was called by Lancashire Police to assist with a distressed male who was unable to exit Warton Quarry. The individual, who had been outdoors overnight, was found to be hypothermic and required medical attention.

Outcome: Medical assistance provided; individual safely removed from the area.

Gisburn Forest

Search and Recovery Pennines Serious incident

The rescue team was called out to Gisburn Forest on Saturday, 25th October, as part of an ongoing search for a missing person. Sadly, during the operation, the individual was found deceased.

Outcome: Deceased

Gisburn Forest

Missing Person Search Pennines

The rescue team responded late on Thursday night to assist with a search for a vulnerable 46-year-old male in the Gisburn Forest area. Seventeen volunteers searched through the night in an immediate area identified by the Police, but unfortunately, the missing person was not found.

Outcome: Person not found

Wigan

Medical/Extraction Pennines

A rescue team was requested by Bolton MRT on Saturday, 4th October, to assist with extricating a 79-year-old male from a wood area near Wigan. The team was stood down en route as sufficient agencies were already present at the scene.

Outcome: No further action required (Stood down)

Staple Oak Fell

Medical Emergency Pennines

During an exercise near the team's headquarters, a casualty became unwell after vomiting. Following assessment, it was determined that the individual had type 2 Diabetes and had not eaten since lunchtime.

Outcome: Recovered after medical attention at HQ

Salter Fell

Motorbike accident/Injury Pennines

The rescue team was called out by Lancashire Constabulary to attend an elderly male who had fallen from his motorbike on the Salter Fell track. After assessing the initial injury as a clavicle fracture, the volunteers safely moved the casualty off the fell and handed him over to the Ambulance Service.

Outcome: Transported to hospital for treatment

Wigan

Missing Person Search Pennines

The team was called by their neighbours to assist with a search for an 82-year-old male who had been missing since the previous night. Fortunately, the individual was located safely as the mountain rescue volunteers were arriving at the scene.

Outcome: Person found safe

Healey Nab

Injury (Mountain Biking) Pennines

A mountain biker sustained an injury after colliding with a tree while cycling in the woods at Healey Nab. Team members attended the scene to provide initial medical assessment and care before safely assisting the individual out of the woods.

Outcome: Transported to hospital for further care

Grindleton Fell

Medical Emergency Pennines

Mountain Rescue Team attended an incident on Grindleton Fell following a call from North West Ambulance Service regarding a male experiencing chest pain. Due to inaccessibility for ambulance staff, the team assessed the situation and safely extracted the individual using a Mountain Rescue Bell stretcher before handing him over to waiting paramedics.

Outcome: Handed over to Paramedics

River Lune

Fall/Medical Assistance Pennines

Mountain Rescue Team members responded to assist with a dog walker who had fallen into the River Lune on Thursday afternoon. The individual sustained a head injury and required assistance being moved from the riverbank to an ambulance parked on the road.

Outcome: Transported safely by emergency services

Ashurst’s Beacon

Fall/Injury Pennines

A rescue team was called out on Friday, 29th August 2025, to assist an 84-year-old male mountain biker who had fallen. The casualty was treated at the scene and subsequently transported by stretcher to a nearby car park for handover.

Outcome: Handed over to paramedics

White Coppice Quarry

Fall/Injury Pennines

A rescue team attended a call regarding an elderly male who had fallen within the disused quarry area of White Coppice on Monday afternoon. Following an assessment, it was determined that the casualty may have sustained a broken lower leg. The incident required assistance from neighbouring mountain rescue teams to safely transport the individual off the hill.

Outcome: Transported by ambulance

Gisburn Forest

Injury (Facial) Pennines

A mountain biker sustained a facial injury after falling in the forest on Friday, 8th August. Although initially reported as immobile, the individual was later found to have walked to his vehicle at Tosside, leading the rescue team to stand down.

Outcome: No further assistance required

Borrowdale Fell

Injury (Head) Pennines

During coverage of the Borrowdale Fell race on Saturday, two separate incidents involving the same individual occurred near Sty Head. The first required assistance for arm and leg injuries, followed shortly by a report of a head injury with a graze to the scalp.

Outcome: Transported from the hill to Seathwaite for medical care.
