Calder Valley Search and Rescue Team responded to five recent callouts involving casualty evacuations from falls at multiple locations and searches for missing persons in collaboration with partner agencies across the region.

injured walker - fall Pennines
A casualty fell approximately 15 feet down a waterfall near Shelf on 8 July 2026. The Calder Valley Search and Rescue Team established a rope system to raise the stretcher up the steep embankment and transferred the casualty to an air ambulance, which flew them to hospital for assessment and treatment.
Outcome: casualty evacuated by air ambulance to hospital

A walker sustained a lower leg injury near Lumb Bank, Heptonstall on 20 June 2026. Calder Valley Search and Rescue Team assisted Yorkshire Ambulance Service in extricating the casualty from a difficult-to-access location and transporting them by stretcher to an awaiting ambulance.

A casualty was found collapsed in woodland near Baildon and received CPR from dog walkers before CVSRT and HVMRT teams arrived. The casualty was transferred by stretcher with ongoing CPR support using an automated device, with a back-rope system employed on steep terrain to ensure safe evacuation.

Injury (Fall) Pennines
A fell runner sustained a lower leg injury after falling near a stone stile on the Upper Brockholes section of the Calderdale Way. The team attended to the casualty, provided pain relief, and evacuated them via an ambulance for onward treatment at Huddersfield A&E.
Outcome: Transported to hospital
Fall/Water Rescue Pennines
A casualty was found by a member of the public after falling down a steep bank into a stream at Lumb Clough Beck. They sustained injuries to their knee and shoulder before being treated by multiple services and airlifted to Leeds General Infirmary.

The team was called out to assist West Yorkshire Police with a search for a missing person over two days. Following an initial unsuccessful search, the team assisted in the safe extraction of the individual from a steep area after they were located alive.
