Fall/Injury Highlands

On Saturday, one woman required an airlift from Ben Cruachan following a serious fall. Later that day, another rescue was conducted for a man who had broken his ankle in a remote area on Stob Ghabhar.

Outcome: Woman airlifted to hospital; man taken to hospital.

Oban / Argyll and Bute

Flood/Landslide Rescue Highlands

The Oban Mountain Rescue Team was called out following multiple floods and landslides in the area, where they reported that everyone involved in an incident south of Ardfern were safe. Additionally, ten motorists were rescued by helicopter near Inveraray after becoming trapped between landslides.

Outcome: All reported persons were safe.

Ben Cruachan

injured hillwalker Highlands Serious incident

A hillwalker fell on Ben Cruachan and sustained serious injuries. Oban Mountain Rescue Team and HM Coastguard Helicopter attended, winching team members down to treat the casualty before airlifting them to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Glasgow.

Outcome: casualty airlifted to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Glasgow by helicopter

Fall/Accident Highlands Serious incident

A hillwalker sadly passed away after falling from near the summit of Ben Cruachan last week. Mountain rescue teams and Police Scotland responded to the incident on February 7th, with personnel eventually reaching the casualty's location.

Outcome: Fatality

Ben Cruachan, Argyll and Bute

A hiker fell near the summit of Ben Cruachan in Argyll and Bute on the evening of 12 September, sustaining multiple fractures. Oban Mountain Rescue team located the casualty and prepared them for evacuation, and they were winched aboard a Coastguard helicopter as daylight faded.

Outcome: casualty evacuated by helicopter winch

Ben Cruachan near Dalmally

Fall/Rescue Highlands

A family encountered difficulties while descending Ben Cruachan near Dalmally when the mother fell onto a ledge with a significant drop below. A young boy was instrumental in calling emergency services and remained with his mother to keep her conscious until mountain rescue arrived.

Outcome: The injured person was airlifted to hospital after receiving initial treatment on site.

Hypothermia/Search and Rescue Highlands Serious incident

Two climbers were found with hypothermia after being reported overdue from a climb. Following an extensive search involving multiple agencies, one of the individuals sadly passed away; the other remains in stable condition.

Outcome: One fatality, one stable

Glencoe (Three Sisters ridges)

Hypothermia/Search and Rescue Highlands Serious incident

Two climbers were found hypothermic after being reported overdue from a climb in the Three Sisters ridges of Glencoe. They were located following an extensive search involving multiple agencies, and one man was airlifted to hospital in a life-threatening condition.

Outcome: One casualty hospitalized; the other stable.
