Rescuers searching for a missing man found a body on Ben Loyal in Sutherland on Friday morning. The man had been reported missing on 27 July, with his car discovered at a walker car park the following day. A Coastguard helicopter assisted in recovering the body from the mountain.

Mountain rescue teams were called out to assist in rescuing a young Labrador that had fallen down a deep and narrow slip near Torfaen, south Wales. The operation required setting up a rope system and involving specialists from two different cave rescue teams to safely bring the dog back to the surface.

A black Labrador named Carla fell into a deep, narrow ravine on moorland near Varteg in Torfaen. After being discovered by members of the public, volunteers from Longtown Mountain Rescue Team and South and Mid Wales Cave Rescue Team worked for seven hours to safely lower a caver into the crack and retrieve the dog. Carla was reunited with her owner uninjured.

A 33-year-old man from Dornoch was reported missing on 25 July 2020 after travelling to Ben Loyal for hill walking. Assynt Mountain Rescue Team joined family, friends and volunteers in an extensive search, focusing on steep rocky terrain on the north side of the mountain where his car was found at a trailhead.

A six-year-old girl fell into a pool above Llanberis Waterfall and was washed over the 100ft drop. A bystander pulled her to safety before mountain rescue arrived. She was conscious and alert when paramedics transported her to hospital for treatment.

Angela Frost, 50, went missing from Lees, Oldham on 11 July 2020. Oldham Mountain Rescue assisted Greater Manchester Police in searching woodland, steep terrain, and stream banks over two days with dogs and a drone, but the missing person was not located.

The team responded to an injured walker who had sustained fractures to both ankles after landing awkwardly while crossing a stream in the Fleets Pond area of Barnsley. Due to limited access, the casualty was carefully carried on a stretcher across streams to reach the ambulance.

Five people were rescued from a boat with engine failure that was taking on water in the mouth of the River Wye near Chepstow. Two lifeboats from Severn Area Rescue Association responded and managed to restart the engine, reduce the water ingress, and escort the vessel safely back to Beachley Slip.

A group became lost in poor weather at Dovestone near Greenfield, with one member unable to walk. A paraglider suffered a serious open fracture to his left ankle after twisting his leg and falling into a gully while launching in the Lomond Hills in summer 2020. He was attended by Ochils Mountain Rescue and airlifted to hospital, where doctors successfully saved his foot. He has since recovered and is now considering joining the mountain rescue team.

Three hillwalkers from Motherwell became lost in mist on The Cobbler in Arrochar and were rescued by Arrochar Mountain Rescue Team. All three were safely escorted down the mountain and met by police at the base, where they were issued fines for breaking lockdown travel restrictions.

A man from Birmingham, dressed inadequately in jeans and a t-shirt, became stranded on a steep and rocky gully on the west face of Tryfan while taking photographs. Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue team deployed and successfully escorted him off the mountain on Monday, 23 March.

Pillar mountain, Lake District

injured fell walker Lake District Serious incident

An experienced fell walker fell 600ft down Pillar mountain in the Lake District after slipping on ice near the summit. He was halted by snow debris just 20ft from a cliff edge and sustained a broken neck, head lacerations, and a chipped elbow bone. Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team, the Coastguard, and the Great North Air Ambulance evacuated him by helicopter to hospital, where he underwent neck surgery and is expected to make a full recovery.
