4 incidents Training Exercise Highlands
The Ochils Mountain Rescue Team conducted their annual winter training over the weekend. Activities included practicing personal and rescue skills in a winter environment, with specific sessions held on Schoolhouse Ridge above Ballachulish and technical rescue drills in Glen Nevis.
Outcome: Successful completion of annual winter training.

A hillwalker died after falling approximately 500 feet from a Scottish mountain. The incident resulted in a fatality.

Search and Rescue (Deceased) Lake District Serious incident
Just before midnight on New Year's Eve, the team responded to a search for a missing fell runner on Cross Fell. Sadly, the individual was found deceased the following day.
Outcome: Fatal outcome after search efforts.
Fall/Accident Highlands Serious incident
A hillwalker sadly passed away after falling from near the summit of Ben Cruachan last week. Mountain rescue teams and Police Scotland responded to the incident on February 7th, with personnel eventually reaching the casualty's location.
Outcome: Fatality
January 2023
1 incident Mountain Rescue/Accident Highlands Serious incident
The team responded to numerous callouts throughout 2022, with a significant number occurring on Ben Nevis. Notable incidents included an eight-hour rescue following a fall from the mountain and another involving an avalanche that resulted in serious injuries.
Outcome: Multiple rescues, including fatalities and severe injuries.
December 2022
5 incidents avalanche Highlands Serious incident
An avalanche on Ben Nevis on 30 December resulted in the death of a 48-year-old climber and serious injury to a 40-year-old man who slid approximately 600 metres down the mountain. The injured casualty was evacuated by helicopter to Belford Hospital after an eight-hour extrication operation in challenging weather conditions.
Outcome: one fatality; one casualty evacuated by helicopter to hospital with serious injuries
Missing Person Search South West
The team was called out by Avon and Somerset Police to assist with a high-risk missing person search on the edge of Exmoor National Park in West Somerset. The missing person was located with assistance from members of the public and subsequently transferred for assessment before being airlifted to hospital.
Outcome: Found and transported to hospital
man fallen into water Peak District
A man became separated from companions whilst walking at Dovestones Reservoir on Christmas Day and fell into Chew Brook. He was located by police helicopter and ground officers, then assisted by Oldham Mountain Rescue Team volunteers who helped him to safety. He was assessed and transferred to hospital for further checks.
Outcome: casualty escorted to safety, assessed, and handed over to ambulance service for hospital transport
Missing Person Search South West
The team assisted Devon & Cornwall Police with searches for a high-risk missing person in North Devon across two callouts around Christmas. Despite extensive efforts involving multiple agencies and search dogs, both searches were ultimately inconclusive.
Outcome: Inconclusive
Animal Rescue Lake District
Rescuers were called out to assist with two sheep that had become trapped above Littletown. After initial attempts failed, the team secured the animals using spikes driven into the ground and eventually managed to bring one down safely.
Outcome: Both sheep were successfully rescued.
November 2022
3 incidents Missing Person Search South West
The team was conducting a monthly search and rescue exercise in Exmoor National Park when they were called out by Avon and Somerset Police to assist with a high-risk missing person search near Chard. Thirty team members deployed alongside colleagues from Avon & Somerset Search and Rescue, along with assistance from Mountain Rescue Search Dogs England.

While responding to a callout on Exmoor National Park, the team was diverted to assist with a high-risk missing person search in the Somerset Levels. The missing individual was eventually located safe and well by the combined teams.
Outcome: Person found safe
Injury/Medical Emergency South West
The team was deployed with other agencies to assist an injured walker along the South West Coast Path. The ambulance crew were able to evacuate the casualty while the team was on scene.
Outcome: Evacuated

fall from height Northern Ireland Serious incident
Three young scouts fell approximately 30 metres on Slieve Binnian in the water slabs area whilst part of a large group undertaking a mountain pursuit challenge. One sustained potentially serious injuries and two others were injured during the fall or whilst attempting to help. All three were evacuated by mountain rescue and transferred to hospital.
Outcome: three casualties evacuated by stretcher and ambulance to hospital
Missing Person Search South West
The team was called out by the police to assist with a search for a high-risk missing person along the South West Coast Path in North Devon. The search concluded successfully when the missing individual was located safe and well en route.
Outcome: Person found safe
Explosion/Search and Rescue Southern Uplands
Emergency services from across Northern Ireland assisted with rescue efforts following a service station explosion in Creeslough. Personnel from various agencies worked through Friday afternoon and into Saturday morning to search the rubble for survivors.
Outcome: Rescue efforts were conducted by multiple emergency services.
September 2022

Mountain rescue teams were tasked with assisting police in a multi-day search operation for a high-risk missing person in North Devon. The search concluded successfully on the second day when the individual was located within the search area and subsequently evacuated by medical services.
Outcome: Person found alive

Two young walkers became lost on Ben Vane and called for mountain rescue at 7:30pm with their phone battery nearly depleted. The rescue team used a PhoneFind text message to locate their grid reference and brought them safely back by 12:30am. The team has since issued guidance on phone battery management and navigation precautions for hill walkers.
Outcome: located and escorted safely back

A hiker fell near the summit of Ben Cruachan in Argyll and Bute on the evening of 12 September, sustaining multiple fractures. Oban Mountain Rescue team located the casualty and prepared them for evacuation, and they were winched aboard a Coastguard helicopter as daylight faded.
Outcome: casualty evacuated by helicopter winch

A mountain rescue team was called to Ben Nevis after an exhausted dog refused to continue walking. The dogs were eventually secured to a stretcher and safely transported back down the mountain where it could rest.
Outcome: Safe return to lower ground
disoriented walkers Highlands
Three German visitors became disoriented by weather on a hill near Ullapool. They were quickly located by search and rescue dog Rona and assessed as uninjured, though cold and wet, before being walked back to their campsite.
Outcome: walkers located uninjured and walked off the hill
