Missing Person Search South West

The team was called out to assist Avon and Somerset Police with a search for a high-risk missing person in the Aust area of South Gloucestershire. Following searches conducted alongside police officers and the coastguard, no one was located, and operations were stood down pending further investigation.

Outcome: Person not found

Grey Mare's Tail

Medical assistance/Unwell walker Southern Uplands

Mountain Rescue was called out on 8th April 2026 to assist a walker who felt unwell while walking at Grey Mare's Tail. Following assessment by the team, the individual was able to walk safely off the hill with support and a confidence rope.

Outcome: Safe return to car park

Nick of Pendle, A56, Sabden

Medical assistance/Rescue Pennines

The team responded to several calls over the past few weeks, including an initial call regarding people in the water which was later confirmed as a hoax. They also attended to a medical casualty near the Nick of Pendle and assisted with the evacuation of another individual with a serious lower leg injury at a motocross event.

Outcome: Casualty assessed and evacuated; support required for access.

Sprinkling Tarn / Borrowdale

Wild camping rescue Lake District

Keswick Mountain Rescue Team responded to two teenagers wild camping near Sprinkling Tarn after they were stranded by high winds that destroyed their tent. The team navigated fallen trees and was able to locate the individuals, who were found cold but otherwise unharmed. Additionally, a solo camper in the area required an escort off the hill.

Outcome: All individuals were safely evacuated from the area.

Priest Hole / Hartsop Valley

Hypothermia/Exposure Lake District

Mountain Rescue teams were called out late Saturday night to four teenagers who had become stranded on the fells due to severe weather. The group was found cold and wet after failing to reach their intended camping spot in the Priest Hole. Following treatment for mild hypothermia at the scene, all individuals were safely escorted down the hill.

Outcome: All rescued safely after treatment at scene.

Cheddar Gorge

Injury (Lower Leg) South West

Team members were called out in the early evening to assist an individual with a lower leg injury above Jacob's Ladder in Cheddar Gorge. They provided pain relief and secured the injured area before safely moving the person down to the roadside for handover to paramedics.

Outcome: Handed over to paramedics

Priest Hole

Hypothermia/Wild Camping Rescue Lake District

Mountain rescue teams were called out after a group of teenagers required assistance near Priest Hole during Storm Dave. Upon arrival, one member of the group was found to be suffering from mild hypothermia and received treatment on scene before safely descending the hill.

Outcome: All rescued safely after treatment

Wild camping/Exposure in severe weather Lake District

Following severe weather over the Easter weekend, multiple mountain rescue teams responded to incidents involving wild campers and walkers in the Lake District. Rescues included a couple stranded near Scafell Pike and teenagers whose tents were destroyed by high winds. Despite challenging conditions, all individuals involved in the reported incidents were safely evacuated.

Outcome: All casualties were rescued safely.

Scafell Pike

Exposure/Difficulty Moving Lake District

Two walkers required assistance on Scafell Pike after becoming cold and unable to move in deteriorating conditions. Following efforts involving multiple rescue teams, the individuals were able to warm up enough to walk safely off the hill.

Outcome: Safe exit from the mountain

Bleasdale

Medical Emergency (Angina) Pennines

Mountain Rescue Team members attended a call regarding an elderly male experiencing an angina attack at the bottom of the hill. Following assistance from nearby personnel, the casualty was safely moved off the hillside to a farm where he was handed over to paramedics for further care.

Outcome: Handed over to Paramedics

Liathach

Getting stuck/Rescue Highlands

Two walkers required rescue after becoming stuck on a mountain ridge without appropriate winter equipment. The team reached them via the steep south side of Liathach and subsequently roped them across the narrow ridge and down snow slopes to the main path below.

Outcome: Found uninjured but cold

Nicky Nook

Medical Emergency/Death Pennines Serious incident

The rescue team was called to Nicky Nook on Wednesday, 1st April, following a collapse involving a 79-year-old male. Despite resuscitation efforts by both the team and paramedics, the casualty was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Outcome: Deceased

Gashed Crag on Tryfan, Gwynedd

Climbing fall/Rescue Snowdonia

Three climbers were on the Gashed Crag route at Tryfan when the lead climber fell past the belay point. The belayer managed to halt the fall but sustained severe rope burns, leading to an emergency call for assistance. Rescue personnel eventually reached the group and used a technical rope system to safely bring all three individuals up to the ridge.

Outcome: All climbers were safely rescued.

Nr Truro

Casualty extraction/Rescue South West

On Tuesday 31 March, the team was called out by Devon & Cornwall Police to assist with the extrication of a casualty at Nr Truro. Fifteen team members attended the scene and spent over an hour conveying the casualty across rough terrain and a watercourse.

Outcome: The casualty was successfully conveyed to an ambulance.

Chippenham

Missing Person / Body Recovery South West

A callout was initially requested by WILSAR regarding a missing person in Chippenham. The incident was downgraded to a standby as local resources were deemed sufficient, but it ultimately became a body recovery operation.

Outcome: Body recovered

Tryfan

Fall/Climbing Accident Snowdonia

A climber sustained serious injury after falling approximately 10 metres while ascending the Gashed Crag route on Tryfan mountain in North Wales. A partner managed to hold the fall, resulting in severe rope burns for them. The climbing leader was reported uninjured and later descended the mountain using a technical rope rescue system.

Outcome: Injured, but rescued

Portishead

Missing Person South West

The team was contacted regarding a missing person in the Portishead area by the police. Following discussions, it was determined that the coastguard were best placed to lead the search efforts.

Outcome: Search initiated by Coastguard

Sail Beck / Newlands Hause

Injury/Search and Rescue Lake District

Mountain Rescue Team responded to an injured walker near Sail Beck after reports of a severe head injury by Third Gill. Despite poor weather conditions, twenty volunteers located the group and coordinated efforts to find missing members before safely transporting the casualty back down to Newlands Hause.

Outcome: Injured walker treated and evacuated; group reunited.

Fur Tor

Medical Emergency (Hypoglycaemia) Dartmoor

A team was called out following a request for assistance regarding a lone diabetic male experiencing low blood sugar at Fur Tor. A multi-agency response was coordinated, involving the South West Ambulance Service and a Coastguard helicopter, which ultimately facilitated the casualty's evacuation.

Outcome: Casualty evacuated

Spidean Coinich

Animal Rescue (Fall) Highlands Serious incident

A search team located a dog that had fallen approximately 100 feet down a cliff ledge in Spidean Coinich after running off with its owners. After being coaxed with treats and guided by the team's torches, the dog was eventually safely lassoed and lifted to safety just after midnight.

Outcome: Rescued safely

Newquay

Missing Person Search South West

The team was called out by Devon & Cornwall Police to assist with a search in the Newquay area at approximately 4:15 am. The search effort concluded later that morning after it was confirmed that the missing group had been located by the police.

Outcome: All safe (or search concluded)

Whiteless Pike, Allonby

Injury/Medical Emergency Lake District

A mountain rescue team attended an incident near Whiteless Pike following reports of a severe head injury. The Coastguard helicopter was called out to assist but was ultimately no longer required as the casualty's injuries were found to be less severe than initially thought.

Outcome: Casualty treated and stabilized by ambulance services.

Castle Combe

Missing Person Search South West

Support was requested for a missing male near Castle Combe. Team members from ASSAR attended the scene and were involved in the search efforts. The individual was subsequently found safe by the search teams.

Outcome: Person found safe
