Striding Edge, Lake District

A 24-year-old climber fell approximately 10 metres on Striding Edge in the Lake District and sustained back, pelvis and ankle injuries. Despite initial poor weather preventing air ambulance rescue, he was treated by Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team volunteers, placed in a full body splint and successfully winched to safety by coastguard helicopter during a break in the weather. Two companions were walked off the fell after becoming cold and mildly hypothermic.

Outcome: casualty hoisted to safety by coastguard helicopter and evacuated
