Tinto Hill, Grey Mare’s Tail

Medical emergency/Fall Southern Uplands

Moffat Mountain Rescue attended two separate callouts over a weekend. On Saturday, assistance was provided to a walker with breathing difficulties on Tinto Hill, who was subsequently evacuated by the Scottish Ambulance Service. Later that weekend, the team assisted at Grey Mare's Tail following an incident where a hillwalker sustained head and hand injuries; the casualty was safely walked off the path before being transferred to hospital.

Outcome: Walker evacuated and transported to hospital

River Tees in Gainford

Water Rescue/Concern for Life at River North East Serious incident

Emergency services were called to Gainford on Friday afternoon following concerns for a man who had entered the River Tees. A major response was mounted involving air ambulance, police helicopter, mountain rescue, paramedics, and fire crews.

Missing Person South West

A man reported missing from the Polruan area was located safe following an extensive two-day search involving multiple agencies. The search efforts concluded with confirmation that the individual had been found and was receiving care.

Deri mountain

Search and Recovery Brecon Beacons

A search team located the body of a man who had been reported missing in the South Wales area. The recovery took place on Deri mountain following efforts by friends, family, and rescue personnel.

Search and Rescue (Multiple) Skye

Over a period of six days, the team responded to seven call-outs in challenging weather conditions across Skye. Searches were conducted in areas including the Red Hills and Northern Cuillin, culminating in the recovery of a body from a high ledge near Harta and Lota Corries.

Outcome: One fatality confirmed; multiple rescues/searches conducted.

Kinloch Hourn area

Following the discovery of a missing walker's body in the water near Kinloch Hourn, extensive search efforts were conducted with assistance from air support and mountain rescue teams. The family has since launched a fundraiser to honour the professionalism shown by all the volunteer teams involved in the search operation.

Mabie Forest

Injury/Extraction Southern Uplands

Moffat MRT responded to a callout on Tuesday, 27th May, to assist with the rescue of an injured mountain biker in Mabie Forest near Dumfries. Team members assisted emergency services by accessing forestry tracks and ultimately helped evacuate the casualty after initial treatment.

Outcome: Safely evacuated to hospital

Sgùrr nan Eag

Fall/Injury Skye

A climber sustained multiple injuries after falling approximately 15 metres on the north-west ridge of Sgùrr nan Eag. Following initial difficulties due to low cloud, team members reached the casualty on foot before lowering them to safer ground. The individual was eventually airlifted from Coire Ghrunnda to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness.

Outcome: Transported by air

Fall/Injury Highlands

On Saturday, one woman required an airlift from Ben Cruachan following a serious fall. Later that day, another rescue was conducted for a man who had broken his ankle in a remote area on Stob Ghabhar.

Outcome: Woman airlifted to hospital; man taken to hospital.

Injury/Rescue Scotland

Members of the Arran Mountain Rescue Team were called out to a walker who had sustained a leg injury on the Stacach Ridge at Goatfell Mountain. The casualty was treated by the team and subsequently evacuated from the hill via an Argo vehicle.

Beinn Ime (Arrochar Alps)

Medical emergency/Fatality Scotland Serious incident

Emergency services were called to Beinn Ime after a gentleman suffered a medical emergency while on the Munro. Despite a multi-agency response involving mountain rescue and coastguard helicopter support, the individual was pronounced dead at the scene.

Outcome: Deceased

Collin, Dumfries

Injury/Evacuation Southern Uplands

Moffat Mountain Rescue Team responded on 10 April 2025 to assist the Scottish Ambulance Service with a remote evacuation near Collin, Dumfries. The casualty required assistance due to a leg injury sustained from tree cutting. The team helped ensure the safe extraction of the individual.

Outcome: Casualty safely evacuated

Ben Wyvis

Injury Highlands

A walker sustained a lower leg injury while on the path towards Ben Wyvis. Nineteen team members were deployed to the hill to provide assistance before the casualty was treated and stretchered down to an awaiting ambulance.

Outcome: Transported from scene

A'Chir ridge, Arran

injured hillwalker Scotland Serious incident

A hillwalker sustained a lower leg injury on the A'Chir ridge on Arran and was airlifted to hospital by Coastguard helicopter. Arran Mountain Rescue Team attended the scene, provided pain relief, and stretchered the casualty to safer ground before the helicopter winch evacuation. The casualty's walking companion was escorted safely off the hill as darkness fell.

Ben Nevis

Climbing accident/Fall Highlands Serious incident

Mountain rescue teams responded after two climbers were found having fallen on Ben Nevis in challenging conditions. The team located the pair and provided initial treatment to the survivor before recovering the body of his companion the following morning.

Outcome: One fatality, one survivor with serious injuries

Bodgara Mill

Fall from horse/Injury South West

The search and rescue team attended an incident at Bodgara Mill involving a woman who had fallen from her horse. Due to difficult terrain, the injured party was carefully packaged into a specialist stretcher and moved to an awaiting ambulance for transport to Derriford Hospital.

Outcome: Transported to hospital for treatment

Hypothermia/Stranding Highlands

Three walkers required rescue in The Pools of Dee within the Lairig Ghru area after becoming stranded during a blizzard. Mountain rescue teams were called out to locate the group, who were subsequently given shelter and assisted down the mountain with the help of all-terrain vehicles.

Outcome: Rescued and safely brought down to Braemar.

Plymouth (Central Park)

Missing Person Search Dartmoor

The rescue team assisted police in searching for several missing persons across various locations over the period. On multiple occasions, the missing individuals were located by members of the public or found to be safe after being searched for in adverse conditions.

dog fall Highlands

A dog named Margo fell into a 21-metre gorge at Finnich Glen in Stirlingshire on Sunday. Lomond Mountain Rescue Team and Scottish Fire and Rescue Service attended and successfully rescued the dog using a rigging system, sustaining only minor injuries.

Outcome: dog rescued with minor injuries, taken to vet for check-up

Bodmin Moor

Lost/Misadventure South West

Search and Rescue teams were called out on Bodmin Moor following bad weather conditions. The location of two walkers was confirmed using phone tracking technology, allowing rescuers to safely attend to one individual who was then stretchered from the rocky ground.

Outcome: Rescued and safely transported

Slaithwaite / Dovestones

Injury/Medical Emergency Pennines

The team responded to multiple callouts over Christmas and Boxing Day. On Boxing Day, they assisted an ambulance crew with a casualty in the Slaithwaite area of Huddersfield. Earlier that day, they were involved in evacuating a walker with a broken ankle from high ground in the Dovestones area.
