Missing Person Search Dartmoor

Police requested assistance in searching for a lost 16-year-old who was camping overnight. The team focused their search east of the River Plym and successfully located the young person relatively quickly. He was found safe and in good health.

Derriford

Missing Person Search Dartmoor Serious incident

The team responded to assist Devon and Cornwall Police with a search for a high-risk missing person near Derriford. After assembling at B&Q on Tavistock Road, the police reported that the individual had been found safe and well.

Notter Bridge (River Lynher)

Flood response/Rescue Dartmoor Serious incident

The team responded to an incident involving heavy rainfall and potential flooding across the peninsula. They were deployed to various locations, including a caravan park at Notter Bridge, where the River Lynher had flooded homes and required evacuation. Working with multiple agencies, they successfully rescued eight individuals and two dogs.

Outcome: Eight people and two dogs rescued.

A 56-year-old walker died following a fall on Tryfan mountain in Snowdonia on 27 May 2019. He was discovered by a fell runner the following morning and recovered by Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue Team with RAF Mountain Rescue Service assistance. The coroner recorded provisional cause of death as chest and head trauma from the fall.

Outcome: casualty deceased, recovered from mountain

A woman who had been threatening self-harm entered the River Severn near Over in Gloucestershire. A major multi-agency rescue operation involving police, fire, ambulance, the SARA lifeboat, and a helicopter successfully rescued her from the water.

Outcome: casualty rescued and transferred to specialist ambulance for medical assistance

An Teallach, Wester Ross

A 60-year-old walker died on An Teallach in Wester Ross after being reported overdue from a walk. His body was discovered by Dundonnell Mountain Rescue Team and an HM Coastguard helicopter around 8.45am. There were no suspicious circumstances.

Penmaenmawr, Snowdonia

Two women in their 20s became stuck on a 200-foot scree slope near Penmaenmawr while searching for Easter eggs and had to contact emergency services. Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue attended and used harnesses and rope to lower both women safely to the ground.

Outcome: both women lowered to safety by mountain rescue using harnesses and rope

Gribin Ridge, Snowdonia

A 56-year-old man fell approximately 100 feet on Gribin Ridge in Snowdonia and was rescued by Ogwen Valley mountain rescue team. A doctor who was walking nearby provided initial assessment of his injuries. The casualty was airlifted to hospital with cuts and other injuries.

Outcome: airlifted to hospital by rescue helicopter

A 25-year-old off-road motorcyclist sustained significant injuries after accidentally riding off a quarry edge near Merthyr, falling 30–40 feet. He was treated by multiple emergency services and air ambulance personnel before being stretchered out and transferred to hospital by ambulance.

Outcome: casualty evacuated by air ambulance and stretcher to hospital

The team responded to a casualty with a traumatic injury on Ben Vrackie yesterday afternoon. The post wishes the individual a speedy recovery and acknowledges assistance from R951.

A 17-year-old male was reported missing on Arran and was found dead near Glenashdale Falls approximately two days later. The incident prompted widespread tributes to the deceased.

Ben Nevis, Number 5 Gully

fatal avalanche Highlands Serious incident

Four climbers died in an avalanche in Number 5 Gully on Ben Nevis on Tuesday of the previous week. Two French climbers aged 41 and 32, and a 43-year-old Swiss climber were killed; a 30-year-old Swiss climber survived. Family members were subsequently taken by Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team to view the accident site.

Outcome: four casualties, one survivor

Snowdon, PYG track

A woman with a suspected broken leg was rescued from the PYG track on Snowdon during severe weather with winds gusting over 100mph. Mountain rescue teams from multiple organisations worked together to locate the casualty near Bwlch Glas and evacuate her, with team members being thrown several metres by the wind during the operation. The rescue was completed by around 10pm.

Outcome: casualty evacuated with pain relief and kept warm until transport

Glencoe area

Hypothermia/Search and Rescue Highlands Serious incident

Two climbers were found with hypothermia after being reported overdue from a climb. Following an extensive search involving multiple agencies, one of the individuals sadly passed away; the other remains in stable condition.

Outcome: One fatality, one stable

Glencoe (Three Sisters ridges)

Two climbers were found hypothermic after being reported overdue from a climb in the Three Sisters ridges of Glencoe. They were located following an extensive search involving multiple agencies, and one man was airlifted to hospital in a life-threatening condition.

Outcome: One casualty hospitalized; the other stable.

Injury (Broken Ankle) Snowdonia

Mountain Rescue Service (SSSART) were called to assist another local team regarding a female with a broken ankle near Llyn Llagi. The casualty was assisted by multiple teams and subsequently carried to the Coastguard helicopter for evacuation.

Outcome: Evacuated by Helicopter

Arenig Fawr / Dolgellau

Missing Person Search Snowdonia

The team responded to assist North Wales Police in searching for a vulnerable missing person near Arenig Fawr bothie. After initial searches at the first location, a second party searched another bothie in the Dolgellau area before the operation was stood down. The individual was later found safe and well.

Outcome: Person located safe and well

Ben Hope, Sutherland

Two hillwalkers died after falling on Ben Hope in Sutherland. Their bodies were discovered by a Coastguard helicopter crew on the north-west side of the mountain after concerns were raised on Tuesday afternoon. Multiple mountain rescue teams, police, and emergency services were involved in the search and recovery operation.

Outcome: two fatalities, bodies recovered

Remote Highlands cabin, loch-side

Medical emergency - head injury Highlands Serious incident

A man in his 70s living off-grid in a remote Highlands cabin activated his personal locator beacon after suffering a potentially life-threatening head injury. A Coastguard helicopter and Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team located and evacuated him, with the rescue coordinated via a satellite signal processed through a response centre in Houston, Texas.

Outcome: Casualty winched to helicopter and flown to Belford Hospital, Fort William; reported to be doing well

Arthur's Seat, Edinburgh

A 42-year-old walker slipped and broke his leg near the top of Arthur's Seat in Edinburgh on snowy conditions. Tweed Valley Mountain Rescue Team, along with police, ambulance, fire and rescue services, and a Coastguard helicopter, worked together to lower the casualty down the steepest section using rope rescue techniques before carrying him to an ambulance at Dunsapie Loch.

Outcome: casualty evacuated by stretcher via multi-agency rope rescue

Snowdon, Trinity gullies

A climber fell approximately 30 metres down Trinity gullies on Snowdon during an avalanche, sustaining a lower leg injury. A seven-hour rescue operation involving mountain rescue volunteers, search dogs, and a coastguard helicopter was launched in hazardous snow conditions, with the casualty ultimately winched to safety by helicopter. A second incident saw a couple rescued from the Llanberis path after becoming stranded in snow and cold.

Outcome: casualty winched aboard helicopter and evacuated

Innerleithen

Tweed Valley Mountain Rescue attended a mountain bike incident on a steep hillside near Innerleithen on Sunday afternoon. The rider sustained a leg injury in a fall and was evacuated by stretcher to the roadside before being transported to hospital.
